$35K OR JAIL FOR POSSESSION OF CANNABIS

Kenroy Marshall was fined EC $35,000 yesterday after he had pleaded guilty, the day before, to possession of cannabis and possession of cannabis with intent to supply.

In a release to the media yesterday, the Office of National Drug and Money Laundering Control Policy (ONDCP) said Marshall was arrested and charged on Monday for having 4lbs, 6oz of compressed cannabis which was seized from him during an operation conducted by the ONDCP on February 18th 2019.

He suffered a gunshot wound to the right femur during that drug bust operation and has been left walking on crutches.

The drugs carried an estimated value of EC $17,500.

During a court appearance on Tuesday, Marshall entered a guilty plea to the charges and was subsequently slapped with a fine of $35,000, with $3,000 to be paid within 24 hours – which he has already paid. The remainder is to be paid in monthly instalments of $1,000.Failure to make the payments will result in Marshall being imprisoned for 18 months.
