A recent police release where a police officer was apparently involved in the shooting of an innocent bystander, neither names the police officer nor state that the officer had committed the act. Around 2am Monday, Timoy Henry, a mid-distance runner set to represent the Federation in a regional meet this weekend, was shot in the neck while at a bar on the Strip. An off-duty police officer is said to be responsible for the Monday morning shooting at the Frigate Bay Strip which left the local athlete hospitalized.
According to reports Henry was shot when the officer fired into a crowd where an altercation had broken out. With regard to the incident which took place on the Monday, this incident has been referred to the Office of Professional Standards” The release made no mention of Henry, nor did it say what action if any has been taken against the officer involved. Mention was made however of two individuals being injured during that incident and being warded in stable condition at the JNF Hospital.
On Tuesday afternoon (June 28), police issued a release, referring to the other incident as an officer involved shooting. Unconfirmed reports were that the suspect had shot the police with his gun as they wrestled on the ground. Other reports were that two officers responded to a larceny call and while in the process of apprehending him, one of the officers discharged his weapon shooting his fellow officer instead of the suspect.
According to the release, “With regards to the incident which took place on Thursday June 23rd in Basseterre, the matter has been referred to the Office of Professional Standards and the injured officer is presently receiving further medical treatment overseas. We want to reassure the public that we will follow the procedures to the highest standard and will keep them informed of any developments as they occur”
