(Thursday, July 21, 2016): Freedom Fm has just received reports of a shooting incident at Fiennes Avenue in Basseterre. There are reports that some four individuals were shot at a wake that was being held under a tent for Kevin Heyliger aka “Money” who was buried earlier today. Reports are that as many as 1 dozen shots were fired.
Police have confirmed that one male Cleon Gilbert of Cayon was shot and died on the scene. Police have also confirmed that Kyle Allen of Central Thibou was also killed as a result of the shooting. Two other males Omax Bye, and Kevis Cotton of College Street Ghaut were injured in the shooting and are nursing gunshot injuries at the JNF hospital.
Thursday night’s shooting takes the murder tally in the federation of St. Kitts and Nevis to 19 murders so far for 2016. In 2015 the federation recorded 32 homicides. Fréedom Fm Newsdesk will have more information as it comes to hand. We extend condolences to the grieving families.
Meantime, the police are also reporting that the Violent Crimes Unit (VCU) is currently investigating a shooting incident St. Johnson’s Village that resulted in injuries to Vernon Elliott. The shooting occurred at around 9.15am on Thursday (July 21). Initial investigations revealed that the victim was shot two times by the assailant. He was taken to the Joseph N. France General Hospital for treatment.
Also on Tuesday July 19, a shooting incident took place at ‘Mad House Alley’ Newtown, at around 9:25pm that resulted in injuries to two persons. Sustaining injuries were 19 year old Shivon Smith a resident of Ponds Pasture and a 20 year old Derrick Hendrickson a resident of Newtown. The official police report stated that “the victims were shot by an unknown assailant(s) while sitting in the area.” They were taken to the Joseph N. France General Hospital for treatment.
