Government Ministers continue to make their way to various schools in St. Kitts and Nevis, to interact with the student population and highlight the importance of the Federation’s sovereignty achieved on September 19, 1983.

On Tuesday (September 13), Deputy Prime Minister and Minister responsible for Education and Youth et al, Honourable Shawn Richards, was joined by Minister of Tourism et al, Honourable Lindsay Grant, and the new Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Mr. Vincent Hodge, as they visited the Newton Ground, Dieppe Bay, St. Pauls, Sandy Point, Bronte Welsh and Tyrell Williams Primary Schools, as well as the Verchilds High and Charles E. Mills Secondary Schools.

The Minister of Education was particularly engaging as he moved through the students, smiling and greeting while asking students about the Independence theme: “Promoting Prosperity through Sustainability and National Unity” and how it relates to them, their family, their community and the nation..

“The students have all been attentive; they have shown that they know what Independence is all about, they have been able to recite the theme for this year’s Independence anniversary and in some instances at some of the schools they can actually articulate the meaning of that particular theme and what about it is significant as we celebrate 33 years of Independence,” he said.

The Minister of Education added that students’ responses during his visit serve as a positive indicator.

“It speaks to the fact that our children are not only educated but they have an understanding relative to the development of St. Kitts and Nevis,” he stated. “I am a Minister of Government today but I do not forever intend to be a Government Minister and one has to be satisfied that we are leaving the future of St. Kitts and Nevis in the hands of educated persons; persons who are conscious as to what is happening; persons who want to see St. Kitts and Nevis being built upon, to see the nation being sustained to ensure that there is prosperity for all of us.”
