Khyla Brown has made the federation of St. Kitts and Nevis proud once again. The 21 year old singer, dancer and entrepreneur was crowned the first Miss Caribbean Carnival at the Sugar Mill in Basseterre, St. Kitts on Saturday December 17, 2016.
According to the scores released by the National Carnival Committee the Kittitian led her closest rival by almost 100 points for a total of 1556.80. 1st Runner Up- Miss Barbados (1458.10 points). 2nd Runner Up- Miss Nevis (1400 points). 3rd Runner Up- Miss Trinidad and Tobago (1389.60 points)
Miss Brown captured three of five judged segments, namely Ambassadorial Appearance (Costume) 247.80 points, swimwear (231.50 points) and winner of the Evening Gown Miss (361.50 points). The other two categories went to Miss Barbados – Best Performing Talent (382.50 points) and Best On-Stage Interview was awarded to Miss Nevis (376.50 points).
This is the Second regional crown she’s captured since her second place finish in last years’ National Carnival Queen pageant. She is also the reigning Miss Culture Caribbean, a title she won in August during the Culturama Activities on Nevis.
Khyla who hails from the town of Sandy Point is a certified beautician and operates Beauty by Khy, located above First Class Jewelry at Port Zante. She is the daughter of Veteran Journalist, Businessman and Calypsonian, A. U. Brown and Businesswoman Nathalie Brown. The former student of the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College, Basseterre High School and Tucker Clarke Primary is considered St. Kitts’ premier nail technician.
A total of twelve nations were advertised to compete, but only seven of the 12 countries participated in the Miss Caribbean Carnival. Antigua, Grenada, Dominican Republic, Jamaica and St. Lucia did not appear – No reason was given by the National Carnival Committee. The contestants for St. Maarten and the BVI failed to capture any prize or award.
