The Royal St. Christopher Police force in a statement issued on Wednesday have indicated that two persons are in custody assisting with the investigation into the murder of Gregory Mills.
The police did not name the suspects and revealed that investigations are ongoing. Tuesday’s murder of young businessman Gregory Mills comes in the wake of several armed robberies of businesses in both St. Kitts and Nevis.
Overnight Tuesday, thieves broke into and ransacked the Basseterre outlet of Island Purified Water on the corner of Fort Thomas Road and Westbourne Ghaut, removing several items including cell phones, television sets, coolers, trolleys, microwaves, cash registers and a vault containing cash.
On 5th May, heavily armed assailants held up and robbed the S.L. Horsford & Co owned Ocean Cold Storage on the C. A. Paul Southwell Industrial Park. Masked robbers wearing army fatigues and carrying what were described as machine guns entered the establishment around closing time before making off with an undisclosed sum of money and the cell phone of the cashier.
Church Ghaut, St. Paul’s resident and driver, Malcolm Rouse, left his vehicle unattended and sought refuge in his home after seeing an armed individual. The gunman entered the bus and stole a cell phone and coins.
A Basseterre woman walking on Central Street was robbed of her handbag which contained nearly EC$1,000 and other personal effects.
A Conaree shopkeeper was recently hospitalised after he was robbed and beaten. The spate of crime in St. Kitts and Nevis continues amidst police reports of a 60 percent increase in crime in 2016 over 2015.
