Former Chief Minister of Anguilla Hubert Hughes say Anguillans were fooled by Britain and St Kitts politicians that the Bradshaw Government in St Kitts was primarily responsible for the economic plight of Anguilla and its lack of basic infrastructure.
Hughes made the comments on Freedom Fm on Friday night during a panel discussion on the attempted overthrow by arms of the Bradshaw Government in St Kitts on June 10th 1967.
Hughes said the Opposition Party in St Kitts at the time, used Anguilla as a springboard to achieve their objectives in St Kitts.
The former Chief Minister said Bradshaw was perceived to be a monster, as was Ronald Webster of Anguilla.
But history shows it was the British Government and not Bradshaw who was depriving Anguillans from a better quality of life. Hughes said it was the British diplomats who “fanned the flames” of anti-Bradshaw and anti St Kitts rhetoric, in an attempt to deceive Anguillans.
