The officers of the Anti-Gang Task Force uncovered a firearm and several rounds of ammunition after carrying out a search on a shack in Conaree on Tuesday, January 23, 2018. Found were one Budischowsky TP-70 .25 caliber with five (5) rounds of ammunition and a transparent plastic bag with eight (8) .38 special rounds of ammunition, as well as a plastic bottle with 29 7.62 mm rounds of ammunition.
A further search was done in the area and a number of marijuana fields were discovered. A total of 1,415 marijuana plants were uprooted. They ranged from seedlings to four (4) feet in height. No arrests were made in connection to the find. The Crime Scene Unit processed the area. The weapon, along with the ammunition, were taken into police custody. Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
In 2017, the Police were able to remove a record 47 firearms from the streets of St. Kitts and Nevis. Additionally, the Police were also able to formally arrest and charge individuals for 38 of the firearms found.
