Antigua and Barbuda will benefit from an additional daily flight from Miami during the upcoming winter season.
The expanded American Airlines service will take effect on December 19, 2018. It will increase the airlift available on the carrier from one to two daily flights. Flights are expected to depart Miami for Antigua at 5:40 p.m. and Antigua for Miami at 9 a.m.
“The new flight will allow Antigua and Barbuda to benefit from more convenient non-stop flight options and is expected to stimulate a significant increase in stay-over visitors,” said Minister of Tourism Charles Fernandez.
“American Airlines will now provide greater access to our visitors traveling from the West coast of the US and open up further options for persons interested in shorter weekend getaways to Antigua and Barbuda. The later flight time will also allow for increased and easier connections for international passengers from the UK who previously had difficulty making connections into Antigua and Barbuda.”
This doubling of the daily flights follows two years of negotiations with American Airlines officials and Antigua and Barbuda’s Airline Committee.
CEO of the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority, Colin C. James said that with new properties scheduled to be open during summer and winter this year, and the resulting increase in room count, the twin-island nation “stands to see even more growth from the extra airlift for the upcoming winter season.”
