The SKNLP representative for constituency #8, Dr Terrance Drew speaking at the Labour Party press conference on Wednesday said that when the Labour Party is returned to power in the upcoming election, they would not build a new Basseterre High School on the water aquifer. Dr Drew indicated that the SKNLP would up the ante in respect to protesting the destruction of the Basseterre High School on its present location. Dr Drew pointed out that there was ground support for that move from the people of SKN. He said his stance was based on scientfic information and that he was ready to galvanize support for such a demonstration.

Three years after taking office, the Team Unity Government continues to deceive the people of St. Kitts and Nevis over the Basseterre High School (BHS) scandal.

“(Prime Minister) Dr. Timothy Harris and (Minister of Education) Shawn Richards promised to build a new high school immediately upon taking government. The students and teachers of the BHS have been languishing for over 3 years in an overcrowded wooden building without labs and other necessary facilities,” said Deputy Political Leader of the opposition St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP).

He told a press conference Wednesday that the academic performance of the educational institution has plummeted “and today the school is in complete chaos run by an incompetent Principal and Minister of Education.”

“No new school will be available for the students of the BHS, yet another election is upon us. Sure enough, they will have a big ceremony and break ground for construction of the school on the water table at Ponds Estate,” said Dr. Martin.

“The students, their teachers and their parents have been cheated, misused and abused. Those who sought to undermine the BHS and deceive the public for political mileage have a lot to repent for,” he said.
