Regina King is the latest star to join forces with Netflix.
On Wednesday, it was announced that the Oscar-winning actress had signed a first-look deal with the entertainment giant. Netflix confirmed King’s production company Royal Ties will produce both series and films for the platform over the course of several years. King’s sister Reina King will serve as head of production.
“I am beyond thrilled to join the Netflix family,” Regina King said in a statement. “They are at the top of their game and as an artist I am so excited to come play in this wonderful sandbox they have created for storytellers.”
The details of the multi-project deal have not been revealed, but Netflix’s chief content officer Ted Sarandos said the company is excited to see what the multi-hyphenate will bring to the table.
“Regina King is a multi-faceted talent both behind and in front of the camera,” he said. “She’s been a trailblazer for years, with boundless creativity and impeccable taste in projects, and we couldn’t be more thrilled that she will bring her formidable talents to Netflix.”
Reging King has starred in critically acclaimed films like Ray, Jerry Maguire, Boyz n the Hood, and If Beale Street Could Talk; the latter earned her a 2019 Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. She has also appeared in TV series like American Crime, Seven Seconds, and Southland, and has directed episodes of This is Us and The Good Doctor. Regina King will also star in Damon Lindelof’s upcoming HBO series Watchmen.
