Charlestown, Nevis (Tuesday, February 10, 2015)- Nevis had a GREEN weekend, Feb 6-8, with celebrations and public meetings hosted by the Nevis Reformation Party (NRP).
With Federal elections just days away, and political parties across the Federation, readying themselves for the February 16 poll, the NRP stepped into high gear.
On Friday, February 6, Nomination Day, the three NRP candidates were duly nominated.
First was the Hon. Patrice Nisbett of Nevis 11 who was nominated at the Newcastle Police Station by the youthful duo of Ms. Dericka Parry and Mr. Rogie Hanley.
Next, the crowd clad in green shirts and caps, with whistles and horns and other party paraphernalia motorcaded to the Gingerland Police Station where newcomer Mr. Cory Tyson was supported by Ms. Tamarelle Browne and Mr. Kenneth Browne. Once the nomination proceeding was completed, Mr. Tyson walked past his alma mater the Gingerland High School, where dozens of children chanted “Cory, Cory, Cory” and waved green cloths NRP logo-ed rags.
The motorcade proceeded down to the Charlestown magistrate’s court where the Hon. E. Robelto Hector was the last of the candidates to be nominated. Hector was nominated by Mr. Paul Willett and Mr. Garrick Hunkins. All three candidates spoke to the media after their nomination. While speaking to the media Mr. Hector stated that he was “extremely proud to be nominated by two distinguished young men who have shown him so much support in his bid for the Federal seat in Bassetere.”
Earlier, Nisbett had told the media that since 2010 he had worked hard not just for Nevis 11, but for all of Nevis. Tyson pledged to reinvigorate Gingerland once he took his seat in Parliament in Church Street, St. Kitts, saying Gingerland had lost much of its glory under the long tenure of Vance Amory.
After nominations, a big crowd gathered at the D.R Walwyn square to receive the much talked about and popularly worn SKNY shirts as SKNY was launched on nevis. At 8pm, the NRP team took to the stage where a huge rally took place and the candidates placed their ideas, opinions and incompetence of the CCM-led Nevis Island Administration before the people. The night ended with the Grand Masters band giving the crowd something to dance the night away with.
On Saturday, a massive public meeting took place at Market Shop in Gingerland where new comer, Mr. Cory Tyson of Nevis 10 revealed his CV, and electrified the massive crowd who all came out in support of #Team Cory.
On Sunday, a big Beach Fun Day took place with games, food and music as the sound of the Small Axe band had numerous supporters enjoying the music and camaraderie at Pinney’s Beach.
The Beach Fun Day then spilled into the candidates being special guests on Choice Community radio, for a special edition of “Tell Me”, where Mr. Stevenson Manners and the Hon. Carlisle Powell hosted a
three-hour radio show of analytical political commentary, short presentations from the candidates and statements from callers at home and abroad.
