St Kitts will host the newest Caribbean Premier League franchise the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in the first home game on the island for the 2015 edition of the tournament, on Tuesday.
Davis Brookes cpl director speaking on Freedom Fm explained that CPL has had a wonderful relationship with the Government since the first planning for CPL games in 2014 and that relationship continues to thrive.
The Warner Park venue, was only added to the cpl roster for last year’s campaign, and became the seventh franchise holder, joining Barbados, Jamaica, Guyana, Antigua and Barbuda, Trinidad and Tobago and St Lucia.
Brookes noted that the franchise is a fantastic opportunity for the country as not only will fans get the opportunity to support their own team but there is notable financial gain.
St Kitts did not feature in the inaugural tournament in 2013 but was surprising handed several games last year, including the semi-finals and the final. Pete Russell CPL CO also speaking on freedom fm said that there is already a party atmosphere on the island and all look forward to the unrivalled passion that will again be evident at the Warner Park Stadium.”
Speaking to what is expected from Tuesday’s game Russel said it would be a historic event. He urged all to purchase tickets early.
The St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots caused a major upset in the 2015 Hero Caribbean Premier League on Saturday when it handed the tournament-leading Barbados Tridents its first loss.
The Patriots entered the game with a 0-1 record after losing to St. Lucia earlier in the week, while the tridents were, until Saturday, undefeated on home soil at Kensington Oval.
The sensational contest went down to the final ball, with the Tridents needing three runs to win and two to tie, but Navin Stewart could only manage a single off the young Orlando Peters, who held his nerve.
Put in to bat first, the Patriots reached 143 for 8 from their 20 overs, with Peters leading the scoring with 27 runs. Martin Guptill added another 23 and Shahid Afridi chipped in with 19.
After the match, captain Marlon Samuels said he still believes the team had not played to its true potential.
