Water consumers are asked to note that we are still experiencing below average rainfall for this time of year. As a result inflows from our surface water sources continue to be low.
The situation is compounded by the brush fire that enveloped the Royal Basseterre Valley National Park on Sunday July 26, 2015. The fire affected the electrical power supply to the wells in the valley. Our groundwater supply is now affected and will not return to normal until remedial work is completed by SKELEC. Consumers in the Basseterre area, Frigate Bay, Half Moon and South East Peninsula will be most affected. Consumers may experience low pressure and supply interruption, especially during peak demand times (6:00am to 9:00am) and (5:00pm to 8pm).
The Water Services Department may have to ration the supply in these areas during the hours of 10:00pm to 5:00am to ensure adequate supply during peak demand periods.
All consumers are therefore encouraged to conserve by using water only for essential uses. Consumers are asked to contact the Water Services Department at 465-8000 for any other related concerns.
