Basseterre, St. Kitts, August 31, 2015 (RSCNPF): During an investigation into a August 27-28 breaking at Island Food Supermarket on Cayon Street, the lead investigator requested support from other units to do a close proximity area search in hopes of finding the items identified as stolen.
The search carried out by several units which included the Criminal Investigation Department, Special Services Unit and the Forensic Services Unit of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force and members of the Defence Force on Saturday (August 29) in the Westbourne Ghaut and Prickly Pear area uncovered a stash of items in an abandoned premises. The items were identified as those from the Supermarket.
A Sanyo Television, a quantity of Beehive Brandy, liquors, soaps and other personal hygiene items, Huggies pampers and a large amount of EC coins were amongst the items found. The Search team also discovered on the property, 35 cannabis plants ranging from 1-7 feet. The scene was processed and the plants uprooted and also taken into police custody.
ACP Queeley, the Assistant Commissioner with responsibility for Criminal Investigations said, “I commend the initiative of the lead investigator in requesting an area search. He did not assume that the items were far gone.” The ACP went on to say that as a result of this search, the police were able to take a quantity of cannabis of the street.
“The investigation into this breaking continues, and with community support the offenders can be found” said ACP Queeley.
The ACP also reiterated, “if you have seen something, if you have heard something as it relates to this or any violent crime, or any criminal activity, tell someone. Call the Basseterre or Charlestown Police Station or any police station with your information.”
