KINGSTON, Jamaica – World Champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce today broke a 25-year-old meet record set by former compatriot Merlene Ottey, after she clocked 10.98 seconds (-0.8m/s) to win the women’s 100m at the XXIX Meeting Citta di Padova in Italy.
Jamaica’s Natasha Morrison finished fourth in a time of 11.50 seconds while second and third went to Brazil’s Rosangela Santos (11.42) and American Shalonda Solomon (11.50).
Fraser-Pryce, who ended her season after winning two gold medals, retaining the women’s 100m and was part of the winning Jamaican women’s 4x100m team at the World Championships in Beijing, China, erased the 10.99 seconds which was set by Ottey on September 16, 1990.
The video of the race was posted to Fraser-Pryce’s Facebook page a short while ago and was captioned: “Citta Di Padova is a small meet that started in 1987. It was not a full stadium and it does not get worldwide coverage but Italy is SFP’s second home so when they invited, SFP was not going to disappoint
