Chairperson of the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour party the Honorable Marcella Liburd said the recent IMF report on St. Kitts-Nevis issued on August 31, 2015 and disclosed at an economic forum in St. Kitts by Deputy Managing Director Ming Zhu, paints a glowing picture on how the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party had managed the debt over the past 5 years.
Liburd disclosed that Zhu had singled out the debt reduction as one of the outstanding achievements of the Labour Party Governments and had spoken of the phenomenal economic growth in St. Kitts-Nevis which she attributed to prudent fiscal policies and strong, effective programs, such as the Citizenship by investment and an ongoing recovery in tourism which had fueled rapid GDP growth of about 6% in 2013 and 2014.
Liburd said the Team Unity Government and the St. Kitts-Nevis Chamber of Industry and Commerce could not sit comfortably on hearing these remarks of the IMF Deputy Director as both have deemed the fiscal and economic realities achieved by the SKNLP Government as failures. Liburd said the SKNLP had left office with SKN as #1 in the Caribbean and that they were quite proud of that record.
