Former Premier of Nevis and Leader of the Nevis Reformation Party Mr. Joseph Parry says the economy of Nevis is in critical shape and needs decisive action to remedy the woes experienced in the tourism sector.
Speaking to Freedom Fm “Issues” on Tuesday, Parry said the Vance Amory international Airport is like a ghost town, with little or no flights into Nevis.
“It’s in a far worse state than how we left it, because airlines have gone and LIAT and CAPE Air have gone.. there is another airline out there. I told you they have to put sandbags in the seats to balance the plane, because nobody is in there” Parry asserted.
Parry said there is a lot of talk out there but very little action speaking about Nevis flagship hotel the Four Seasons, he insisted that the hotel rooms are unfilled, not even 70%, so you can’t speak of success.
But on Wednesday’s government sponsored talk show “Working for You” on ZIZ, WINN Fm and Sugar City Rock, Premier of Nevis, and Minister of Labor, Social Security & Ecclesiastical affairs the Honorable Vance Amory when asked how the economy of Nevis was performing, said it was buoyant and moving upwards.
Amory referenced several developments on the island including the Four Seasons, spending over $100 million on villa type properties, promotion of the CBI, Mount Nevis, Paradise Palms and Paradise Beach which has the capacity to be a 5 star hotel.
Amory wants to brand Nevis as a romantic isle for tourists.
