The government of Antigua and Barbuda may soon increase fines for breaching COVID-19 protocols.
This comes after a woman is said to have returned to work after testing positive for the coronavirus.
According to reports, the young woman returned to the bar where she is employed as a waitress after she got her positive COVID-19 results.
She may have exposed over 100 patrons to the virus.
Minister of Health Molwyn Joseph said an investigation has been launched and the woman may soon be charged.
“I want to highlight specifically a case where a young lady should have been in isolation, she was positive but yet she left her home and went to work in a bar… I spoke with the Attorney General this morning and he has agreed to assist the Ministry of Health with a dedicated officer whose assignment would only be to assist the Ministry of Health in keeping strict surveillance on people in quarantine.”
Minister Molwyn said the government has no choice but to consider increasing fines and penalties for breaching COVID-19 protocols.
He said each resident has a responsibility to support the government’s efforts to slow the spread of the virus.
