Dr Kuba Assegai who from his home in the United States campaigned for years to get rid of Denzil Douglas, appears to have started a new campaign. This time it’s against the Team Unity government. On Monday’s edition of “ISSUES” on Freedom Fm, Assegai predicted that “there will be a new government after the next election,” scheduled for 2020.
He is among a growing list of persons who helped the PAM coalition while in opposition and is now saying that Team Unity is not ready to govern. Assegai has joined countless of Unity supporters that are unhappy with the performance of the PAM led Team Unity government, which in the last six months, increased the cost of food, destroyed the CBI program, created sluggishness in the economy, human rights abuses, political cleansing and on a smear campaign against Labour Party supporters.
He also lamented the continued “discrimination against our best minds,” and criticized some of Team Unity’s recent ambassadorial appointments. He said known Labour Party supporter, Scientists and Teacher Clement “Bouncing” Williams should have been given the opportunity to serve as an ambassador despite his political persuasion.
Dr. Assegai who it seems has a personal grouse with the former Prime Minister Dr. Denzil Douglas, stated emphatically that Dr. Thelma Phillip Brown “is not the best person to represent the federation as the ambassador to the U.S.” He believes that the ongoing victimization of diplomats and other civil servants appointed by the former administration is taking us backwards and is not in the best interest of St. Kitts and Nevis.
Assegai a local Muslim, once strongly supported the Labour Party and was instrumental in the protests following the inconclusive elections of 1993. On Issues on Monday he called for the replacement of Dr Douglas as leader of the SKNLP with Dr Terrance Drew.
