BERLIN, Germany, Thursday August 18, 2016 – International Barbados-born pop star Rihanna received an unusual tribute this week – a headless statue of herself erected in Berlin. The statue towers a good 20 feet high, and is also placed on a plinth, making it even more impressive.
Visiting the statue for the first time, the “Umbrella” singer was taken aback by its dimensions – especially in the upper regions.
The artist was Colombian Juan Sebastian Pelaez, who unveiled the statue as part of the Berlin Biennale for Contemporary Art. Curiously, he elected to create Ri-Ri’s body kneeling and clad in a giant bikini, and headless, but with her face superimposed on her chest.
