Bobbi Kristina Brown’s autopsy results have been released, and her cause of death is nearly identical to her mother Whitney Houston’s in 2011. Like her mother, Bobbi Kristina died drowning while using a variety of drugs, including cocaine, marijuana, anti-anxiety medications and possibly heroin.
According to TMZ, the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s testing revealed Bobbi Kristina died due to “immersion of face in water complicating mixed drug intoxication.” The drugs found in her system were marijuana, alcohol, a cocaine-related substance called benzoylecgonine, benzodiazepines (prescription anti-anxiety meds) and morphine, the last of which could be related to heroin use.
Her official cause of death was pneumonia and encephalopathy, which means her lungs filled with water and her brain was injured as a result of the time she spent submerged in her bathtub on January 31. Four years prior, nearly to the day, Whitney Houston’s cause of death was almost identical — drowning in her bathtub complicated by cocaine use and heart disease.
As of now, it’s not clear whether foul play was a factor or how and if this will affect the ongoing investigation into Bobbi Kristina’s boyfriend Nick Gordon, who has remained a “person of interest” since the 22-year-old music scion was first found. Gordon also faces a civil wrongful death lawsuit from Bedelia Hargrove, an attorney who represents Bobbi Kristina’s estate.
Among the things Hargrove accused Gordon of are poisoning Bobbi Kristina with a “toxic cocktail” of drugs and inflicting traumatic physical abuse the night before she was found unconscious. The autopsy results should provide some conclusive answers as to what Bobbi Kristina suffered in her final days.
