Reports circulating in local media and on Facebook to the effect that the president of the CFBC, Dr Kevin Daley was terminated by the TUG on Monday 23 May 2016 were denied by the Education Minister Hon Shawn k. Richards.
Reports are that Dr. Daley was served a termination letter and given 20 minutes to vacate his office and the CFBC compound. But speaking to Freedom Fm’s Newsdesk Wednesday Morning, Minister Richards made it clear that Dr Daley had not been terminated. Richards said Dr. Daley was asked to proceed on vacation leave by the CFBC board before the expiration of his contract in August 2016.
Richards pointed out that the measure was necessary to prevent the board from absorbing that cost once his contract expired. When asked if Dr Daley’s contract would be renewed or who his successor would be, the education Minister said that would be a matter for the board and referred us to the chairman Vincent Samuel a Professor at the U.V.I or the deputy chairman Rev. Damian Hughes of the Methodist Church. Freedom Fm also contacted former Education Minister Nigel Carty for his take on this matter.
Carty indicated that the board was terminating Daley who had a contract spelling out the terms and conditions of his work. Carty further stated that the TUG and Minister Richards have a history of terminating people over their politics, and said Minister Richards should be able to say what is the inclination of the TUG with respect to the renewal of his contract at the CFBC.
