Commissioner of Police Ian Queeley in an exclusive interview on Freedom Fm on Friday morning is calling on the general public to help the police fight gang and gun related crimes in St. Kitts – Nevis.
The Commissioner of Police acknowledged that crime was surging upwards noting the escalation in murders during the month, prompting the SKNLP Opposition to see it as the ‘bloodiest month’ in recent times.
Queeley said there was definitely a surge in gang member’s retaliation, which has accounted for the murder tally rising to 21 for 2016.
When asked about a rumor in circulation about a dead body with gunshot wounds found in the TDC area of the Frigate Bay Road, he denied this unsubstantiated report claiming that social media was at times irresponsible.
He cited a Face book report of increasing incidents of rapes when this was not the case. Queeley called on the SKN community to assist the police to detect crime by speaking to the police about recent shootings and murders.
Queeley reminded nationals that when they ‘see something say something’, in an effort to minimize gun related crimes for their own protection and that of the country as a whole.
The Commissioner of Police pointed out that recent police initiatives could not be publicized but assured the public that all resources were being brought to the fore in combating the fight against crime.
At the PM’s press conference on Wednesday, Queeley outlined some of these initiatives.
