The Conaree community was rocked Monday evening when the body of an older woman was discovered in her home, bearing multiple stab wounds.
According to unofficial sources, the woman, seventy-seven-year-old Constance Thompson-Gumbs, was reportedly discovered by some children who went to the house to buy candy.
Police on Tuesday informed that they received a report of a body being found in a house at Conaree at approximately 5:30 p.m Monday. According to police Thompson-Gumbs was discovered lying motionless in the living room of her house with multiple stab wounds in various parts of her body.
The District Medical Officer, Dr. Maria Warner was summoned to the scene and pronounced Thompson-Gumbs dead. Personnel from the Forensic Unit processed the scene and took items of evidential value into custody.
Freedom FM has since learned that a c male victim was taken into police custody early Tuesday morning in connection to the case. The person of interest also lives in Conaree.
Police have only confirmed that “a man is in Police custody assisting with the investigating into the incident and investigations into the matter are ongoing”.
The death of the senior citizen marks the 11th homicide in the federation this year; 2 on Nevis and 9 on St. Kitts.
