Eight (8) employees from the Constituency Empowerment (CEO) office located at La Guerite have received letters from the Government’s Human Resource Department terminating their employment with immediate effect. These employees represent constituencies #3, #4, #5, #7 and #8.
Director of the Constituency Empowerment Office, Dr. Joyelle Clarke was sent on leave from April 20, June 2015, along with Communications/Research Officer Nesha David, Terry Morris, another worker was sent on a shorter vacation leave and is expected to be repositioned.
Freedom FM understands that a clerk, a project officer and a messenger there were also terminated with immediate effect.
Four PEP workers assigned to the Constituency Empowerment Office were not receiving any letters, were not told anything and were uncertain of their job status at the C.E.O.
Freedom FM understands that on Friday sometime after 3 pm, Osbert DeSouza Permanent Secretary in the Prime Minister Harris’ office, accompanied by two police officers went to the C.E.O at La Guerite and issued the termination and vacation letters to the employees, asking them to take their personal belongings but to leave keys and other government documents.
Freedoms FM contacted the Prime Minister’s Press Secretary Mr. Clecton Phillip on Monday who refused to comment saying that he was unaware of the action at the C.E.O but would investigate it and issue a report.
On Saturday Freedom FM spoke to the Honorable Marcella Liburd, parliamentary representative for constituency #2 and Chairperson of the St. Kitts – Nevis Labour Party who condemned the firing of the C.E.O workers as part of a new culture ushered in by Team Unity.
