In a recent address to the people of Nevis, the Leader of the Nevis Reformation Party (NRP), the Hon. Joseph Parry said that the residents of Nevis must,” frown on the culture of corruption” being practiced by the Concerned Citizens Movement led Administration.
“How can we say to our children, to the youth on this island and the society at large that they must conduct themselves with honesty, with integrity and with fairness and yet those at the very top are not held accountable? This type of mixed messaging is harmful, dangerous, unprincipled and hypocritical. We must stop rewarding lies and deceit, stop accepting dishonesty. We must now frown on this culture of corruption that has become the new normal,” said Parry.
There have been many residents on Nevis who are alarmed at the allegations that Ministers and their intermediaries own heavy equipment including excavators, backhoes, bulldozers, curb laying machines and trucks. Stories abound that the owners of these equipment are given extraordinarily lucrative government contracts and jobs at the people’s expense.
According to the Hon. Joseph Parry, Hanley’s Road was budgeted at 4.5 million dollars but now the people of Nevis are told that the actual cost could be as high as 12 million dollars!
“It is not surprising that the circle of surrogates benefiting from this rape of the Nevis treasury through the excesses of the CCM government vigorously defend the corruption that is taking place at the expense of our island. If Nevis is to rise again, these practices must end. We in the NRP fully supported the passage of the Integrity in Public Life Bill into law. We once again demand the appointment of the Integrity in Public Life Commissioners and the enforcement of the provisions of the Bill,” commented Parry.
