Claudette “CP” Peters won big at the LIME Party Monarch on Saturday. The soca diva earned her 10th soca monarch title over the weekend when she claimed the Groovy Monarch crown, making her the most decorated soca artiste in the show’s history.
Her pole dancing antics while performing Nasty won high praise from both the audience and judges. Responding to her win Peters told OBSERVER media the victory was a result of solid planning.
“I was confident. No doubt about that at all. We had everything down pat. It was just a matter of going out there and doing what we had rehearsed. It’s a lot of great songs out this year and of course, strong artists so I knew I had to protect my grounds.”
The first runner-up spot went to Ricardo Drue while newcomer Boasta claimed the second runner-up with his breakout hit Old Time Something.
In the Jumpy segment, Ricardo Drue retained his crown with WAR. He edged out Peters who was judged first runner-up.
“At the end of the day we got a crown and I will leave it at that and we’ll just work harder next time. We executed the way we wanted to execute and that’s all we could have done,” he said.
While he wasn’t able to snag both crowns, he commended Peters on her win.
“Claudette Peters was the bigger woman in this one and she was one of my mentors from 2010 to now so I have nothing but happiness for her,” he said.
As for his 2016 bid to the International Soca Monarch competition in Trinidad, Drue said preparation is already under way.
Last year’s Groovy Monarch Tian Winter was judged second runner-up in the Jumpy category, with his performance of Voices whichkept the crowd on its feet.
Other highlights of the night came from Menace who donned scuba gear for his performance of Sand to the Beach and hulked up for energetic rendition of Unruly.
