KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Jamaica Tallawahs made it three from three at home in the Hero Caribbean Premier League (CPL) Twenty20 tournament when they defeated defending champions Trinbago Knight Riders by 19 runs at Sabina Park on Monday.
The Tallawahs, after being asked to take first strike, posted 158-6 from their allotted overs and later restricted the Knight Riders to 139-9 from their allotment.
The win was orchestrated by a man-of-the-match performance by Andre Russell, who after leading the Tallawahs charge with a score of 44, returned to take four for 23 runs from his four overs. South African pacer Dale Steyn was the next best bowler with two for 21.
Hashim Amla with a patient 42 was the best scorer in the Knight Riders innings, supported by wicketkeeper/batsman Denesh Ramdin with 31. Earlier, Russell hit five fours and three sixes in his electrifying knock, which came off 24 balls. Rovman Powell also contributed 44 from
34 balls hitting two fours and four sixes in a 71-run third wicket stand with Kumar Sangakkara who made 23. Kevon Cooper was the pick of the bowlers with three for 22 from four overs, while captain Dwayne Bravo got two for 29 from his four.
