A search for a missing juvenile by officers of the Cayon Police Station has resulted in the discovery of a body in Cayon area.
Initial investigations revealed that remains are those of the missing person, Tyrique Duncan, of Spooner’s Project, Cayon.
Duncan was reported missing by family members who had not seen him since Sunday (March 6). Freedom Fm has learnt that an anonymous call to police headquarters around midday Thursday alerted authorities to the discovery.
Assistant Commissioner of Police responsible for Operations Terrence James, in giving a brief report to media personnel at the scene, said because he is a resident of the area, he knew where to find the scene based on the caller’s information.
James speaking to local media said “We were able to come directly to the area and we came upon the body right on the main road in the Hermitage Estate area…the body was visible in the road.”
ACP James said the presence of bullet casings meant they could “reasonably suspect” Duncan was shot.
Police also confirmed that the body had not been decapitated, as was being rumored. Members of the Crime Scene Unit processed the scene and discovered empty bullet casings and other items of evidential value, he said.
Dr. Garfield Alexander, the District Medical Officer, visited the scene and pronounced Duncan dead. The body was removed just after 2pm. Duncan’s death brings the murder total in the Federation to 8 for 2016. The investigation into the cause of death is ongoing.
