The SDA is continuing its determined war on Diabetes ,using various strategies to detect as early as possible, any cases yet undetected, and assisting, through education and other proactive means, to hopefully avoid the complications of this dangerous malady.
In keeping with this, another screening exercise will be held at the Verchilds High School, tomorrow 28th September, starting at 830 am, when some 60 students, randomly selected, will be screened in an attempt to discover any new cases of Diabetes.
This screening exercise was started during the last school year at the Charles E Mills High school, then continued at the Basseterre School, and thereafter, at the Saddlers High School.
It is hoped that the exercise in all of the High schools can be completed, during the week of activities highlighting World Diabetes Day , the 14th November 2016.
We appeal to the general public and the Business community to assist in whatever way possible , as we strive to carry the fight to Diabetes . One of the goals of the International Diabetes community , is to change the statistic, which relates to the fact that a person dies every 6 seconds worldwide as a result of a diabetes related condition. It is hoped, as was expressed clearly at the last international meeting in Vancouver, last December, that this statistic can be changed to at least every 7 seconds by virtue of activities and interventions like these.
