BASSETERRE – The chants of thousands of Labour Day marchers highlighting the rampant nepotism at the highest level of the Team Unity government were singled out Wednesday by the St Kitts-Nevis Labour Party’s caretaker representative for St Christopher 8, Dr Terrance Drew.
During Wednesday’s edition of the most popular “Issues” programme, Dr Drew noted widespread concerns that members of the Harris family are given special privileges by Dr Timothy Harris government. Pointing to two of the chants ‘Harris must Go” and Harris Again’, Dr Drew, commented on the latter which expressed outrage that the Harris family is being helped significantly by the Dr Timothy Harris-led PAM/CCM/PLP Government.
“They are been given very prominent positions and opportunities that the average persons in St Kitts and Nevis cannot get, one of the chants said is that this government is like a Harris family business. It was also explained that although it is not personal, it’s all about lack of integrity and good governance when it come to the issues,” said Dr Drew.
“The chanters said if you want a loan, its Harris Again as his brother is in charge of the Development Bank; if you want an MRI, its Harris Again as his relative is in charge of the MRI machine at the Monkey Farm; if you want to rent a car as the police force is renting all these police cars from T & S – we need to find out who owns T & S, because there it is Harris Again; if you want to know who is the magistrate, it is a Harris Again, if you want to know who is the Registrar in the Court, it is a Harris Again; if you want to know who runs the government payroll (office), it’s a Harris Again; you want to know holds a top position in the prison, it’s a Harris Again; you want to buy ice, it’s a Harris Again; you want to rent tents, tables and chairs, it’s a Harris Again when you look around this country you see that (Timothy) Harris is running this government like a family business and the people of St Kitts and Nevis did not vote for nepotism,” Dr Drew told listeners to Freedom FM 106.5 “Issues.”
