BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS – The St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party caretaker representative for St Christopher 8, Dr. Terrance drew has likened the Federation’s Prime Minister Dr. The Hon. Timothy Harris to “the Emperor with no clothes.”
Dr. Drew accused the Prime Minister of muzzling and alienating friends and foe alike of the right of free speech, freedom of expression and the right to be heard.
“Anybody who is close to him and who has the strength to criticise him has been dealt. You can ask (activist) Terry Adams about him; you can ask (PLP Chairman) Douglas Wattley about him; you can ask Harris’ former Press Secretary) Clecton Phillip about him; you can ask (PLP Deputy Political Leader and United Nations Ambassador (Sam Condor about him and even (Operation Rescue Co-Founder) Dwyer Astaphan.
This is his modus operandi. The Prime Minister does not want anyone to criticise him,” said Dr. Drew, who also pointed Prime Minister Harris has lost the little popularity he had when he took office 18 months ago.
In the February 16th 2015 general election, the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party remained the largest single party on St. Kitts gaining 11,897 votes to the People’s Action Movement (PAM), 8,452 and the Peoples Labour Party (PLP), 2,723 votes.
“When his supporters point out his faults and are critical of him he does not want to hear it. He wants everybody to tell him that he is the most popular, the most vibrant and most successful politician at this time in our country and so he goes around and looks for people close to him and who would cheer him on and buses them to government-sponsored political events. Just like the emperor who had on no clothes and who everybody knew that the Emperor was naked, politically Timothy Harris is stark naked at this moment,” Dr Drew said.
“He has a cheer-leading group from his constituency around him, those he has carefully selected and who dare not challenge him,” said Dr. Drew, who accused Prime Minister Douglas in spreading lies at his “gualla, gualla instead of addressing the issues of armed robberies, murders, burglaries, high unemployment and other issues affecting the country.
