SKNLP rep for constituency #8, Dr Terrance drew is taking Prime minister the Honorable Dr Timothy Harris to task for the rampant crime on the island.
Dr Drew while speaking on the popular talk show issues said that the prime minister’s first meeting with the police ranks in the nema building back in march 2015, was to politicize the police force.
Dr Drew said the minister of national security is not serious on the crime issue, as after one year in office a commissioner has not been chosen to lead the police force. Dr Drew said the miracle of the force is at an all time low and that Dr Harris has destroyed the police high command.
Dr Drew reiterated that the programs that were in place to help at risk youths such as the magic and the taps program have disappeared. Dr Drew further questioned why Prime Minister Harris had weakened the judiciary system by placing his family in prominent positions.
Meanwhile the parliamentary representative for constituency #2 the honorable Marcella Liburd weighing in on the government’s response to the crime wave, said during Wednesday’s edition of issues, that the government response to crime was hypocritical and did not go far enough.
Liburd said the Prime Minister had ensured his own personal safety by spending $1 million of tax payer’s money to secure his private residence in Tabernacle, and had beefed up his personal security detail by having 20 police officers guarding him.
Liburd said Harris should repay the million dollars into the treasury like the former Virgin Islands governor had done, when he used government funds to enhance his property.
