Leslie “King Sugarbowl” Morton and seven other soca artistes have called a press conference for the soca artistes who have decided not to “draw” at the official ceremony held at the Carnival Secretariat on Tuesday night when numbers were pulled to decide the order of appearance at the soca semi finals.
On his Wednesday morning show on Freedom Fm, the Reigning Soca Power King indicated that eight soca artistes had decided not to go through with pulling a number and had staged a walk out of the ceremony.
The soca artistes who walked out on Tuesday’s official ceremony were Reigning Groovy King: Mr Bagnall, Reigning Power King: King Sugarbowl, Former Power King: Mr Hype, Pinnochio, K-Jah, Rucas and two artistes from Nevis.
Bowl said the reason for the decision was the National Carnival Committee Chairman’s insistence in adding three other soca artistes to the original fifteen names against the rules governing the soca monarch competition.
The Soca King announced that the artistes had organized a press conference for Thursday afternoon at Freedom Fm to inform the public of their decision and the way forward.
King Sugar Bowl told Freedom Fm news that they had not withdrawn from the competition but had registered their protest by not pulling a number.
When asked if they were risking disqualification by not pulling the required number, the Soca King said the constitution did not disqualify them from competing because of their action.
