The Federation of St Kitts and Nevis was left in shock and deep sorrow on Saturday as news circulated of the brutal murder of a Nevisian teenage girl.
The victim ,15 year old Shante Claxton of Jessups village a former student of the Charlestown Secondary School was reportedly excited for the reopening school on Monday was found dead in the bathroom of the St Thomas’ primary school.
On learning of the incident,Deputy Premier Mark Brantley, issued a statement, assuring that the police have been out in their numbers to begin their investigative work. “I appeal to our Nevisian community to support the police and assist them in every way to ensure that the family of young Shante obtains swift justice. I wish to underscore your Government’s unwavering resolve in its fight against crime and violence in our little island,” promised Brantley.
He said, “As Acting Premier I was extremely saddened to learn of the tragic death of Shante Claxton, a young student that represented the future of our island. As a father myself it hurts me deeply and I can only imagine the pain and hurt being experienced by the immediate and extended family.”
The Acting Premier said the government will lend the necessary support to the family and friends of Shante and in particular the students of her school.
He added that the preliminary reports of the circumstances of the death suggest the commission of a most heinous crime. “More importantly however, this tragic event violates the sacred values we as a Nevisian society hold dear. Our children are our island’s greatest asset. We must at all times and at all cost protect them.”

Speaking on Saturday, Commissioner of Police, CG Walwyn promised to seek the help of the FBI in bringing this person to justice. As a people, this killing has touched the souls of all of us; this is not the time to keep quiet.”
He Stated “As Commissioner of Police I take it personal when one of our children are hurt. I offer condolences on behalf of the police force, myself, and my family to the family of Shante Claxton.”
Walwyn also called on the public to play their part in finding the culprit, and he urged citizens with information to call crime stoppers at 1-800-8477 and you do not have to give your name. Indicating that Some of you have whatsapped me with the name of a suspect and I assure you that the police are out looking for him right now.
He asked for calm in the event that the suspect is found by you before the police find him. “Please let justice be done. I am a father of four daughter, and while I understand what anger causes men to do, I urge you, please do not take the law into your own hands.”
