Former Premier of Nevis and Leader of the Nevis Reformation Party (NRP) the Honorable Joseph Parry was the specially invited telephone guest on Freedom Fm’s “Issues” on Tuesday.
The veteran politician told listeners that although outside of government, he was still mentally and physically fit and ready to resume office at the next Nevis elections.
Mr. Parry then gave an analysis of the performance of the Nevis economy, in particular the claims made by Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Finance, Colin Dore that the Nevis economy was steadily improving.
At a recent Nevis Island Administration 9th Annual Consultation of the Economy, Dore said that growth in the tourism and the construction sectors, coupled with retail and wholesale trades were evidence of the economic turnaround in Nevis.
However Mr. Parry said there were no signs of any new investment in Nevis.
He said two recent projects touted by CCM, Candy Resorts and another at the bottom of Jessups had been stopped.
Mr. Parry said there is no real growth program for Nevis and outlined that there were hardly any airlift to and from Nevis and that sand bags were being used to balance empty Seaborne airline flights.
Mr. Parry said the financial sector was not performing up to par and said the recent IMF report showing a 3.5% growth in St. Kitts-Nevis could not apply to Nevis and the Citizenship by Investment program.
Mr. Parry said the Four Seasons Resort is up for sale and may close for a while.
