Former Press Secretary to Prime Minister Harris Clecton Phillip writing a blog on social media is calling on the Team Unity Government to immediately put in place Integrity in Public Life and Freedom of Information Legislation and to establish the Parliamentary Public Accounts Committee without further delay. Anything else is unacceptable.
“The people voted for good governance and the aforementioned laws and committee are critical elements of any good governance infrastructure. This talk about meeting the manifesto promises in 5 years is just more excuse for not getting the priorities right. So what happens during the intervening period between taking office and the implementation of good governance reforms elected officials and other public servants pillaging, pilfering and plundering state resources, promiscuous profiteering and racketeering in public office, folks turning what should be noble public service into a thriving criminal enterprise”.
Phillip stated in a pointed reference to Team Unity Government that “if we have to keep shuffling the pack, we will keep shuffling. I say we hire and fire Parliamentary Representatives until we get it right, Representatives who are not afraid of meeting with the people instead of passing them onto functionaries.”
The former Press Secretary and People’s Labour Party PRO said “the people did not vote for the status quo but for good governance reforms within the first 100 days in office or the people would continue to suffer economic hardships as a result of untrammeled corrupt activities by unscrupulous public servants.
