Clecton Phillip, the former Team Unity Press Secretary to Prime Minister Dr Timothy Harris has opted not to renew his contract with the Team Unity government. Phillip was one of the distinctive voices against the SKNLP government led by Denzil Douglas while in opposition and was one of the leading voices in the Basseterre High School issue.
Phillip told local media that he is now spending quality family time with his daughters and assisting them with preparation of upcoming CXC examinations.
His performance as press secretary seemed low keyed to many, and there is speculation in opposition ranks that Phillip has become disillusioned with Team Unity.
In an interview Tuesday, Winn FM asked him about his future plans and continued relationship with Team Unity.
“I’m not thinking anything beyond helping my children, my two children that are in high school, one is in fourth form one is in fifth form. I’m not thinking of anything right now beyond helping them prepare for their upcoming CXC exams. After that then I’ll start thinking about something else” Phillip said.
Back in January 2016 Prime Minister Harris used the event of his first press conference in 2016 to set the record straight regarding media reports that his press secretary Clecton Phillip had stopped working for government. Prime Minister Harris noted that “the Press Secretary, for the record, always had a one year assignment with Team UNITY and that one year assignment will end in the near future, 29th of February.”
“Mr. Clecton Phillip will leave the office of the Press Secretary by mutual agreement on the completion of the agreed period of service. We will, in time, determine where best his services can be further utilised,” Dr. Harris explained.
But in the Winn Fm interview after being asked repeatedly by Ken Richards if his allegiance and support were still with the Team Unity administration, Phillip evaded the question posed each time.
