Freedom FM’s popular gospel DJ Bro Bernel was held at gunpoint early Friday morning as he tried to gain access to the Cable Building where the radio station is located. Bro Bernel told Freedom FM Newsdesk that he arrived to work after 3 am to set up for his gospel show from 4-7 am.
As he was about to open the door to go up the stairs, suddenly someone who did not identify himself, told him to stop and pulled his gun on Bro Bernel.
During the short exchange, Bro Bernel said he recognized the gun man to be a police officer who told him that he had orders not to allow anyone in the building. Bro Bernel indicated to the officer that he was merely trying to get into the station to do his regular morning shift. The officer then allowed him to proceed up the stairway with his gun pointed on him all the time.
Upon reaching the radio station, the officer allowed Bro Bernel to enter without any further incident. Bro Bernel told Freedom FM Newsdesk that he feared for his life and was totally traumatized by the incident. He said it was a morning he would never forget. Freedom FM contacted the COP CG Walwyn and Deputy Commisioner Stafford Liburd who said an investigation into this matter was underway.
By 8 am Friday morning, Freedom FM Newsdesk observed that officers from the Royal St. Christopher & Nevis Police Force (RSCNPF) had locked out employees of St. Kitts Investment Promotion Agency (SKIPA ) and secured the office. SKIPA employees were later seen outside on the sidewalk in front of the Cable Building.
