Hugh Oswald Wallace, otherwise known as Raphael Raffie Wallace who played cricket for Nevis with Premier Vance Amory, reminisced on Monday 19th October on the last conversation he had with his now deceased son, Philo.
He recalls that it was just about 10 o’clock on Saturday night-17th October when his son came and told him that he was going out to see his girlfriend.
He remembers that his immediate reaction was: ‘Bwoy, whey you ah go this time ah night?’
Young Philo insisted on going out and interestingly added: “and I may not come back.’
‘No,’ Raffie insisted. ‘He did not mean it that way. I think he meant that he may not come back home that night..but he aint come back,’ he said sadly.
Raffie Wallace then recalled being awakened from sleep by one of his sisters who was wailing loudly and was told that ‘Philo dead.’
He noted that he went into an immediate state of shock and has since been trying to come to grips with the reality of the situation.
He noted that there has been an outpouring of love and genuine concern for his family, from the entire community and expressed his gratitude to one and all.
‘Philo was a good boy. You know, sometimes he would give a little trouble, as all boys would but he was generally a good boy,’ insisted RAFFIE. ‘I believe that he would have made it right to the top of West Indies cricket, with his all round ability,’ he opined.
He further indicated that the family was awaiting the autopsy results before finalizing the funeral service.
