“It is the greediness of Prime Minister Dr. Timothy Harris that he is not only milking the global Citizenship by Investment Programme but also jeopardising the economic and social welfare of St. Kitts and Nevis and other Caribbean nations and which could result in the suffering of the people of St. Kitts and Nevis and other Caribbean CBI jurisdictions.
That’s the view of a concerned national on Wednesday, who at one time was a stakeholder in the St. Kitts and Nevis Citizenship by Investment Programme, who said the alarm was further raised by a recent news report in the eTurboNews Group website dated July 18, 2018 in which Prime Minister Harris is pictured.
The individual spoke on condition that his or her name not used for fear of political victimisation by the Timothy Harris-led Team Unity Government said the “rampant discount” being offered for the sale of St. Kitts and Nevis passports has raised enormous concern in the OECD countries.
“The St. Kitts and Nevis and Caribbean CIP industries were shaken by an earth tremor in St. Kitts and Nevis that was monitored in the OECD nations with an report that ‘St. Kitts and Nevis was giving away passports’,” said the individual, who added: “That triggered the concerns which could very well have financial, social and economic implications for St. Kitts and Nevis, Dominica, St. Lucia, Grenada and Antigua and Barbuda in the coming months.”
“The numerous negative statements about the Citizenship By Investment Programme by Dr. Harris, Mark Brantley and others from the then Team Unity coalition before coming to office, coupled with the wholesale turning over of the St. Kitts and Nevis Citizenship by Investment Programme database to specific western nations by the new Team Unity Government on taking office were ill-advised,” the individual stated.
The person said with more than 25 countries considering entering the industry and those already slashing prices for citizenship, it is evident that Dr. Harris “despite his denial continues to take the industry in a race to the bottom.”
“Recent reports that high-level officials in St. Kitts have entered into an underhand a deal for real estate developers to sell citizenship for as little as US$37,000 and US$50,000 or even less, without being required to build anything, is not only troubling but has heightened the already high level of concern over adequate, proper and professional due diligence of applicants since the Hurricane Relief option was introduced,” said the individual.
