Guest Speaker at the 83rd annual conference of the St.Kitts-Nevis Labour Party Ms. Penelope Beckles of the People’s National Movement (PNM) of Trinidad and Tobago, while speaking to hundreds of party faithfuls and delegates at the SKNLP Conference on Sunday at the Marriott Hotel, has advised them to keep the faith and be ready for general elections in 2020. The versatile politician/lawyer said that while in opposition gives the St. Kitts Nevis Labour Party the opportunity to be a better party.
Ms. Beckles-Robinson used past experiences from her P.N.M party to equate with the St. Kitts and Nevis situation. The guest speaker said that there was also a coalition Unity government in Trinidad, where heated friction and divisiveness, had brought about its demise.She said “in SKN you have Labour in opposition and Labour in government”. She also referenced the recent elections in Guyana, where an election had taken place in 3 years instead of the traditional 5 year term and advised the SKNLP to be ready.
Ms Beckles encouraged the Conference to teach their children the history of Labour and urged the party leaders to listen to the people.
Ms. Penelope Beckles ,who recently served as Leader of Opposition Business in the Senate, said that given the great traditions and accomplishments of the SKNLP, particularly in recent times, the SKNLP will be in great shape to resume government in 2020 ….or before.
