Federal minister of Foreign Affairs and Deputy Premier of Nevis the Honorable Mark Brantley is defending his two jobs and two salaries. While speaking on the Team Unity Government’s weekly information radio program “Working for You”.
Brantley was asked by host Lesroy Williams about the privilege he enjoys in having two jobs one in the federal government and the other in the Nevis Island Administration.
Brantley indicated that the position comes with responsibility and representation, as he was “not selected but elected for these roles”, as it was the people who elected him.
Brantley was adamant that the two positions demanded two payments and that he was puzzled by the noise and clamor coming from the opposition.
He said Hensley Daniel and Patrice Nisbett had the same ambitions but it had not worked out for them and that it was “all much ado about nothing”. Brantley stated that in 20 years of being in power the SKNLP government led by Dr Denzil Douglas did not initiate any constitutional reform if they were serious about changing the status quo.
In recent times the Nevis Reformation Party and the St Kitts Nevis Labour Party have continued to expose the fact that for the first time in the nation’s history, Premier Vance Amory and Deputy Premier Mark Brantley have been allowed the monthly double salary by the Team Unity government(TUG). Political analysts point to the fact that although it’s not the first time representatives of the Nevis Island Administration have worked in dual capacities, it’s the first time they have received 2 salaries.
In the past the Nevis representative took home the bigger of the two salaries.
