Uk: Joe Christie, 23, tried to return the £10 note to the woman but was left stunned by her reaction as she quickly walked away without the money
A young rapper has revealed the shocking moment he tried to return a woman’s dropped £10 note only to be told ‘sorry, I’m not into black boys’.
Joe Christie, 23, was walking in Streatham, south London, when he noticed the cash from the woman’s jacket pocket.
But as he approached her from behind to return the money, he said he was met with the racist reply before the woman rushed away.
Joe wrote about the ordeal on Facebook on Saturday and the post has since gone viral – receiving more than 130,000 likes and 6,000 shares.
He wrote: “This is a picture of £7.05p
“20 minutes ago I was on Streatham high street in South London.
“A woman about 3 metres in front of me no older than 30 dropped a £10 note from her jacket pocket.
“I picked it up,walked up to her an said “Excuse me luv”.
“Before I had a chance to finish my sentence she said “Sorry I’m not into Black boys” and walked off in a hurry.”
After the woman rejected her own cash, Joe used the money to buy himself some chicken and chips.
Mr Christie, who lives in Streatham, later wrote a tongue-in-cheek message thanking the stranger for buying him lunch.
He told the London Evening Standard: “It’s not the worst she could have said in terms of the racist aspect of it.
“But it was disappointing, because in this day and age you wouldn’t expect it in London. She could have just said ‘I’m in a hurry’.
“She was flattering herself to say the least, though. She wasn’t a hottie, put it that way.”
He was met with a flood of supportive messages after posting about the experience.
Natalie Ansell said: “Well good on him for trying, such a shame the woman was to quick to judge and she must think a lot of herself to rebuff with that answer.”
Hayley Goodall added: “Even if they are asking you out on a date, so what? Still carry yourself correctly it could have taken them a lot of courage to come over, don’t shoot them down in flames. That’s just stuck up.”
