“As to the Prime Minister-ship, no it is not automatic that if Unity is returned Dr. Harris becomes Prime Minister.”
Those were the words of Jonel Powell, Chairman of the People’s Action Movement that he says the Opposition St. Kitts and Nevis Labour Party has used to imply that PAM does not support Dr. Timothy Harris as Prime Minister and would not endorse him to lead again should the Unity coalition win the next election.
In the initial interview on Freedom FM’s Issues, Powell had gone on to explain his comments about the leadership of Team Unity.
“However that is a choice that we the coalition partners will determine, who we think is the best person to lead the coalition and to lead the government. I can say that at this point in time we’re very satisfied with the leadership of Dr. Harris.”
He told Freedom FM that PAM fully supports Dr. Harris as the next Prime Minister once the tri-party Team Unity is again successful at the polls, even if the party wins more than the four seats it did in 2015.
“That was the whole comment, so those who are trying to say that we’re not supporting Dr. Harris as Prime Minister and to address the issue of who would be Prime Minister next election- there it is. As I said the opposition will try anything they can to try and manipulate the truth, but the Opposition suffers from diarrhea of the imagination.
“We as PAM are fully supportive of Dr. Timothy Harris as the Prime Minister. We know where we stand and we know what we have to do going into the next election. So all I’m going to say to them is Harris again.”
PAM, which brought four of the seven seats to the Unity coalition, has predicted that it will increase its margin of victory at the next polls, due by May 2020.
