Marcella Liburd-1Opposition MP and Chairperson of the SKNLP Hon Marcella Liburd has taken the Team Unity Government to task on an issue with the federation’s Independence celebrations.

Speaking on the popular talk show ‘Issues’ on Freedom FM today, Wednesday, the MP pointed out that while the Independence program has pictures of the first premier, Sir Robert L. Bradshaw and the first prime minister, Sir Kennedy A. Simmonds, the program failed to recognize Sir Robert as the nation’s first national hero among other omissions.

She said, the fact that Bradshaw is the first national hero isn’t mentioned is because they have a problem with the first National hero. What I also find interesting is that upon Independence, Nevis got its own government. Dr. Simeon Daniel became the first premier of Nevis, but there is no picture of Dr. Simeon Daniel, the first premier of Nevis, on the Independence calendar that they are putting out.”

She strongly indicated that these omissions were intentional. The MP said she found interesting the fact that only one item is listed as officially taking place on Nevis – the State Service.

“So we see, that we’re with a government that all they do is take decisions which are political, not decisions that are in the best interest of the people of St. Kitts and Nevis,” Liburd concluded.

However since this matter was brought to the attention of the general public by the represenrtative for # 2, by Thursday the ceremony to honour the first National hero Sir Robert Bradshaw had been included in a Revised Independence Activities 2015, to take place in St Pauls on National Hero’s Day September 16,2015 at 8 am at the base of the Bradshaw statue.
