CALIFORNIA, United States, Wednesday October 12, 2016 – Filming of the all-girl reboot of the Ocean’s Eleven franchise is set to get underway in New York this month, and Rihanna and friends are reportedly ready to rock.
Barbados’ pop princess will be joined in the caper by Sandra Bullock, Anne Hathaway, Helena Bonham Carter, Cate Blanchett, Sarah Paulson, Mindy Kaling and rapper Awkwafina.
The movie is slated for release in 2018, according to the Hollywood Reporter, and although the plot has been kept under wraps, it is said that it will see the girl gang pulling off a heist at the Met Gala in New York.
Previous incarnations of the Ocean’s series have been set in Las Vegas and across Europe.
The original Ocean’s Eleven movie was made in 1960 and saw Frank Sinatra in the title role of Danny Ocean, backed by co-stars from his famous Rat Pack including Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., Peter Lawford and Joey Bishop.
George Clooney took the title role in the first remake of the movie in 2001, alongside co-stars Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Elliott Gould and Don Cheadle.
Clooney went on to reprise the lead role in successive box office hits Ocean’s Twelve in 2004 and Ocean’s Thirteen three years later.
Meanwhile, Matt Damon, who played pickpocket Linus Caldwell alongside Clooney and Pitt in three of the four previous Ocean’s movies, is enthusiastic about the upcoming all-girl reboot.
“I think it’s going to be awesome,” he said.
