The Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force is currently investigating the suspicious death of Jeshawn Mayers, a male in his mid 20’s of Newtown.
The incident occurred around 11am today (Sunday, December 13) in Taylor’s Range.
Mr. Mayers was approached in the street by an unknown assailant(s) who shot him several times and he sadly died at the scene.
The Violent Crimes Unit is investigating the incident and the scene has been examined by the Forensics Services Unit.
In seeking the public’s assistance in relation to this incident, Assistant Commissioner of Police Ian Queeley said, “we urge anyone who may have been in the Taylor’s range area between 10:00am and 11:15am today, to come forward and share anything they may have seen or heard.
I also appeal to any member of the community to share any information they may have about potential criminal activities in the area.
Something you may have seen or heard, may provide information that can assist the police in this crime and others.”
“The Police cannot fight this crime alone and incidents such as this around the world are detected and repeats prevented by the community and their Police Officers working together, sharing information and taking responsibility to make their communities safe. ” stressed ACP Queeley.
Reports indicate that the painter was gunned down while working on the temporary structure that will accommodate displaced students of the Basseterre High School.
Persons who saw the body before it was transported to the JNF General Hospital where an autopsy is to be performed before the body is handed over to his family for burial, said he received six shots to the body and a fatal one to the head.
This brings the homicide count to 32 for 2015.
Last Tuesday a hit and run driver caused the untimely death of Royston Collin 31, the bother of sprint icon Kim Collins.
This incident took place in Newtown and police said they were investigating and need the public’s assistance.
As with most of the recent killings, no suspects have been identified in that vehicular homicide.
