The young man taken into custody in connection with the brutal stabbing of an elderly woman in Conaree on Monday has been charged with an offense, but not in relation to the homicide.
Freedom FM has been reliably informed that the individual has been charged with robbery relating to a different matter.
Seventy-seven-year-old Constance Thompson-Gumbs was discovered dead in her home the evening of April 29, her body bearing several stab wounds.
The individual, also a resident of Conaree, was reportedly taken into custody for questioning in the predawn hours of April 30.
Forensic Pathologist, Dr. Valery Alexandrov performed an autopsy on the deceased on May 01, and concluded that her death was a result of Hemorrhagic Shock due to multiple stab wounds.
Police have not offered any information about a possible motive for the crime, however the killing has sparked widespread condemnation with many persons asking what could have prompted anyone to stab an elderly woman multiple times.
The individual’s name has not yet been released and as at press time Friday, no police press release regarding the robbery charge had been issued.
